| The water front community of
Toms River, is located
in Ocean County on the New Jersey Shore. The Town is 42 square miles
with just under 100,000 residents that almost doubles during the summer
months. The town is bisected by 5 state highways and is 1 of 33 municipalities
within Ocean County who serve over 433,000 residents that reside in the
636 square miles. Tidal waters within the town include the Atlantic Ocean,
Barnegat Bay, Silver Bay, Toms River, Winding River, Goose Creek, Kettle
Creek, and multiple inland waterways and lakes.
Six volunteer fire companies, make up the largest Fire Department in Ocean County and is staffed by 350 volunteers providing fire protection to the residents of Toms River 24 hours a day. Two Fire Districts make up the Town, each with its own publicly elected Board of Fire Commissioners, consisting of 5 Commissioners. The Joint Board of Fire Commissioners is the governing body that oversees the fire companies of each respective district, Bureau of Fire Prevention, Fire Communications Center and the Fire Academy. Fire District #1 covers the southern, western and eastern sections of the town with coverage by Toms River Fire Co #1, Toms River Fire Co # 2, Ocean Beach Fire Co # 3 and East Dover Fire Co # 4.
